Gimballed Oil Lamps

Designed to stay upright and  safe on board in turbulent seas, our gimballed oil lamps burn for up to 12 hours on one filling – illuminating the cabin without draining precious battery power. We offer two versions:

Fastnet Lamp
Our unique polished oil lamp has earned the respect of serious sailors because of its highly sensitive gimbal mechanism which ensures that it remains upright even in turbulent seas. A special feature is the heat-shield, which gimbals with the lamp.
Maximum heeling angle for gimbal: pitch 30 degrees, roll unlimited. The lamp is also fitted with a carrying handle so that it can be lifted clear of the frame for portable use.
Fitted with a hinged burner and 1″ wick for effective light. Height including heat-shield 12.5″. Capacity 300ml (11 fl-oz) sufficient for 12 hours burning.

Gipsy Moth Lamp
These compact oil lamps have been designed for small sailing boats, where every inch of space is precious and battery power is at a premium. Named as a tribute to that pioneer of small-boat sailing, Sir Francis Chichester.
Fully gimballed and heavily weighted for maximum safety. Their 25mm (1″) wick hinge burners gives unsurpassed light for its size. Height (including chimney) 10″. Projection 6.25″. Capacity 7fl-oz. Weight empty 31-oz. Burning time is eight hours. Heat Shield diameter 4.5″.
