Sailors’ Knotboards
Square-rigged sailing ships had several miles of rigging that involved thousands of knots – from simple hitches to ornate Turk’s Heads. In learning to tie them, apprentices found that knotboards served as useful training references and displays of their skill. Today they are popular showpieces in yacht clubs, restaurants, pubs, and homes.
Our range is made in China, where skilled, efficient craftsmen reproduce the ancient skills at good value prices. The knots are tied in natural cotton cord, on a black velveteen background, and displayed in glass-fronted wood frames with chunky brass corners.
